The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE) has recently altered the process of shipments in relation to the Cargo Compliance Verification (CCV).
As per the DAWE, all inspections must provide a location before the CCV inspection direction will be issued.
CCV inspections are conducted by DAWE on containerised sea cargo imported into Australia. As the Freight and Trade Alliance explains, this is a part of the system of verification that ensures the integrity of the Australian biosecurity system.
Unlike most other inspect types, CCVs can be performed at the importer’s premises.
Previously the CCV inspection location could be nominated when the importer or customs brokerage made a booking with DAWE. This is no longer the case, and the inspection location must be known prior.
This decision was made by the DAWE to align CCV’s with any other standard lodgement, whereby a hold would be placed on the consignment until a location for the inspection has been chosen.
The DAWE will try to call the importer or customs broker in the first instance however if they are unreachable, the following options will are available:
- Update the location in Cargo Online Lodgement System (COLS) using the original Local Reference Number.
- Contact the departments Client Contact Group who will update the location and remove the “hold pending information” direction.
To keep up to date with DAWE notices, it is recommended that TGL readers join their newsletter.
We will continue to provide updates where necessary on the DAWE and cargo inspections.
